Schalke move for Raúl

5 07 2010

Real Madrid legend and Spain’s highest goalscorer of all time Raúl is poised to complete a move to German outfit Schalke, according to reports in Spain.

The 33-year-old is no longer a regular starter for Los Merengues and Jose Mourinho is ready to allow the striker to leave on a free transfer. A two-year deal worth £3.3m per year has been agreed, although this will only be finalised once he has returned from his holiday according to the Spanish Press. Raúl rejected offers worth more money from clubs in Qatar and the USA to prolong his career at the highest level and Schalke are able to offer him Champions League football.

Despite these reports in Spain, Schalke manager Felix Magath maintains that the deal has not yet been finalised.

“We are interested in him and are negotiating with his agent,” Magath revealed to Bild.

“The player has not decided yet and wants time until the end of July to make up his mind. It would be a huge signing for Schalke and the whole Bundesliga.”
