Premier League Predictions: Week 3

27 08 2010

[picapp align=”left” wrap=”true” link=”term=premier+league+champions&iid=8751922″ src=”″ width=”234″ height=”392″ /] We’ve just enjoyed an exciting week of Champions League and Europa League football but tomorrow sees the return of the Premier League with the third week of fixtures. My predictions last week were abysmal; I failed to correctly predict one result. I’m surprised you’ve come back to read my predictions for this week in all honesty. Looking at the glass half full, I cannot do worse than last week, can I?

Week 2 was full of goals. There were 6-0 victories for Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle. Will Blackpool, Wigan and Aston Villa bounce back this week? Like my predictions, they cannot do much worse than the week before. On second thoughts, Wigan travel to White Hart Lane where they received a 9-1 thumping last season. Good luck lads! Below are the fixtures for this weekend:

Saturday 28th August 2010

Blackburn Rovers v Arsenal 12:45
Blackpool v Fulham
Chelsea v Stoke
Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United
Manchester United v West Ham United

Sunday 29th August 2010

Aston Villa v Everton 16:00
Bolton Wanderers v Birmingham City 13:30
Liverpool v West Bromwich Albion
Sunderland v Manchester City

The weekend kicks off at Ewood Park in the afternoon’s lunch time kick-off where Blackburn entertain Arsenal. Big Sam has enjoyed success against Arsenal many times before during his days as Bolton manager. Ewood Park has become a very difficult place to go and get a result and I don’t see them losing many at home this season. That said, Arsenal may just have a bit too much for them tomorrow.

The stand-out fixture appears to be at Villa Park on Sunday where an out of form Aston Villa, fresh from their Europa League defeat against Rapid Vienna, host Everton. Sunday also sees title hopefuls Manchester City travel to The Stadium of Light in what could prove a tricky test. Nonetheless, if they are to mount a serious title challenge this season, it is the type of game they must find a way to win even if it’s not done in style. Anyway, enough of this rambling, it’s about time I put my money where my mouth is. (Not literally, I’d likely choke and I’m rubbish at predictions).

Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Arsenal
Blackpool 1-1 Fulham
Chelsea 4-0 Stoke
Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Wigan Athletic
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Newcastle United
Manchester United 3-0 West Ham United

Aston Villa 1-1 Everton
Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Birmingham City
Liverpool 2-1 West Bromwich Albion
Sunderland 0-2 Manchester City

As I may have mentioned just once or twice, I’m no Paul the Octopus (yes, I’ve used that joke again and yes I’ll probably use it until another psychic octopus is found). However, if you was to put your money where your mouth is, one shiny pound coin on those fixtures with SkyBet (correct outcomes not scorelines) would see you stand to pocket £388. I accept cash or cheque if you wish to share your winnings.

As usual, it’s always interesting to see your thoughts and predictions for the weekend ahead so leave them in the box below. Here’s to another great weekend of football.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we’re in for another goal-fest either mate. Hope we are!
