Aston Villa winger Ashley Young tops new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson’s transfer wish-list as he tries to add British players to his squad.

Hodgson also wants to add Lille’s Ivory Coast international winger Gervinho as a direct replacement for Yossi Benayoun.

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor is another British player on Hodgson’s wanted list.

Manchester United will need to fork out £30m to prise Brazil striker Luis Fabiano away from Sevilla.

United are also set to splash out £15m to sign Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

Chelsea have re-entered the race to sign £20m-rated Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero.

The Blues have also made an enquiry about Benfica’s Brazilian midfielder Ramires.

Tottenham will move for Ajax goal-machine Luis Suarez if they fail to land his Uruguayan strike partner Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has also set his sights on Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

Redknapp is also interested in £7m-rated City and Wales striker Craig Bellamy. His future at Eastlands has been thrown into doubt by City manager Roberto Mancini’s summer spending spree.

City midfielder Stephen Ireland could also be on his way out at City with neighbours Manchester United keen to take him.

But Slovakia midfielder Vladimir Weiss wants to fight for his future at Eastlands rather than join Newcastle.

Meanwhile, City manager Mancini has targeted Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta as an alternative to Aston Villa’s James Milner.

Mancini may even offer Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha and Michael Johnson in exchange for the uncapped Spaniard.

West Ham have not given up hope of signing Brazilian playmaker Neymar from Santos and may increase their offer for the wonderkid to £12m. Santos are believed to want around £20m for him, though.

The Hammers also seem set to capture Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell. He is set to Fulham to join them.

Birmingham City are considering making a bid for South Africa striker Katlego Mphela, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns in his home country.

England boss Fabio Capello has promised FA chiefs he will axe his biggest stars if they do not show an immediate and drastic improvement following the disastrous World Cup campaign. John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard are all on a final warning.

Ex-Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is expected to hold talks with Fulham with a view to becoming Roy Hodgson’s successor.

The Fulham players’ favourite for the job is former Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola.

Manchester City’s new signing Yaya Toure will become the first Premier League player to smash through the £200,000-a-week wages barrier. His mind-boggling weekly wage of £220,000 will earn him £55.6m over his five-year contract.

England midfielder Joe Cole says Fabio Capello’s side weren’t good enough in the World Cup and suffered from a “loss of technique”.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will instruct Wayne Rooney to rest after England’s World Cup disaster and will not take him on the club’s money-making US tour.

An unnamed England player says the players were worn out by Fabio Capello’s training session before the last-16 World Cup match with Germany but admits the team underperformed.
