Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £35m bid for Dutch striker Robin van Persie.

Alex Ferguson is set to launch a bid for out-of-favour Real Madrid and France forward Karim Benzema but the Manchester United boss must first attempt to secure funds from player sales.

New Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill is confident of persuading David James to stay at Fratton Park following talks with the veteran goalkeeper.

West Ham are expected to make an improved offer for Brazilian wonderkid Neymar after Santos rejected a £12m bid.

Manchester City target Edin Dzeko has met with his Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren to plead with him to let him leave the Bundesliga club. The 24-year-old striker has a price tag of £32.5m which Wolfbsurg will not drop.

Striker Michael Owen, 30, says he will be fit for the start of the Premier League season with Manchester United and confirms his interest in returning to the England setup.

New boss Roy Hodgson wants to bring Brede Hangeland and Danny Murphy to Anfield according to the media watch section on Liverpool’s official website. The story also reiterates Hodgson’s desire to recruit Gilberto Silva and Rafael Van der Vaart to add to the signing of Milan Jovanovic.
