Real Madrid want to conclude their summer transfer business by capturing Chelsea defender Ashley Cole and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Midfielder Joe Cole is set to be offered £3m a year to join Italian side AC Milan after being released by Chelsea.

Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez is set to risk the wrath of former employers Liverpool by trying to wrestle Milan Jovanovic away from them. The striker agreed to move to Anfield on a Bosman transfer from Standard Liege after talks in January but is now having second thoughts about the switch.

Manchester City have insisted striker Carlos Tevez is staying at Eastlands, despite reports that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is keen to recruit the Argentine star.

German side Wolfsburg have stunned City by demanding £50m for striker Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian is reportedly keen to move to Eastlands.

City are also keen to recruit Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan, who had a successful spell on loan at Everton last season and was impressive for the United States at the World Cup in South Africa.

City boss Roberto Mancini is also keen to recruit Aston Villa midfielder James Milner and forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, and is prepared to part with £44m to bring the pair to City.

Everton have bid £900,000 for Strasbourg striker Magaye Gueye and are also keen on signing German defender Arne Freidrich, who is reportedly available at a knockdown fee of £2m following his club Hertha Berlin’s relegation from the Bundesliga.

Bolton are closing in on the capture of Brazilian striker Ilan, who is available on a Bosman deal after being released by West Ham. The Trotters also want Juan Roman Riquelme following the midfielder’s release by Boca Juniors.

Bolton are also chasing Burnley’s 34-year-old striker Robbie Blake, who is believed to have rejected terms on a new deal at Turf Moor.

Birmingham City have put in a £6m bid to sign Fulham striker Bobby Zamora.

Aston Villa are maintaining their interest in Arsenal striker Eduardo, who is keen to move from the Emirates, while the club has also asked Jeju United to be kept informed on the availability of South Korea defender Cho Yong-Hyung.

Villa are also believed to be chasing West Ham midfielder Scott Parker and Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Tranquillo Barnetta and could be prepared to pay £14m for the pair.

Manchester United look set to lure Panathinaikos midfielder Sotiris Ninis to Old Trafford in a deal believed to be worth £9.6million.

United are also keen on signing Paris St Germain midfielder Stéphane Sessègnon, and are willing to offer Brazilian flop Anderson as part of the deal.

The Red Devils could also make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, who could become surplus to requirements at the San Siro if Inter boss Rafa Benitez succeeds in signing Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

Newcastle are keen to recruit Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury on loan to assist them in their first season back in the Premier League. Lansbury impressed on loan at Watford last season.

West Brom are set for talks with Frederic Piquionne on Wednesday after Lyon accepted a £1m-plus offer for the striker, who spent last season on loan at Portsmouth.

Former Charlton and West Ham manager Alan Curbishley is set to edge out ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson and one-time Manchester City manager Mark Hughes and take over from Liverpool-bound Hodgson at Fulham.

However, Eriksson, who was in charge of the Ivory Coast during the World Cup, is being tipped as the leading contender to take the Craven Cottage post.

Former Reading and Watford manager Brendan Rogers is the front runner to take over from Nigel Pearson at Leicester. Pearson left the Walkers Stadium to take up the reigns at Hull on Tuesday.

Ipswich manager Roy Keane is on a collision course with Town owner Marcus Evans after missing out on the signing of two players this summer, one of whom is believed to be midfielder Shaun Derry, who joined QPR after being released by Crystal Palace. “It is frustrating and disappointing,” conceded Keane.

Manchester United have denied that Gary Neville is ready to hang up his boots and accept a job with Sky Sports.
