James Milner will stun Aston Villa on his return from the World Cup by handing in a written transfer request if they attempt to block his £28m move to Manchester City.

Chelsea are eyeing up £22m-rated Ajax striker Luis Suarez who has impressed for Uruguay at the World Cup. The 23-year-old, who scored 49 goals in 48 games last season, is also attracting attention from Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus.

Tottenham have joined Chelsea, Manchester City and AC Milan in the race to sign Sevilla’s Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano, who is rated at £20m.

Spurs are also poised to make an £8m move for Paris St Germain’s 26-year-old midfielder Stephane Sessegnon.

Eidur Gudjohnsen is poised to join Fulham unless Tottenham intervene either to extend his loan deal or sign him permanently from French club Monaco.

Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez is so keen to sign Javier Mascherano from his former club Liverpool that he is ready to offer defensive midfielder Esteban Cambiasso in a player-plus-cash deal.

Benitez also wants to take three other Liverpool players to Italy and is interested in England full-back Glen Johnson, Danish centre-back Daniel Agger and Brazilian midfielder Lucas.

Nigel de Jong looks set to leave Manchester City once they have completed the £24m signing of Barcelona’s Yaya Toure. The 25-year-old, who is currently anchoring the Dutch midfield at the World Cup, arrived at Eastlands 17 months ago in a £16m deal from Hamburg.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to stump up £32m to capture Serie A-based pair Simon Kjaer and Mario Balotelli. Kjaer, 21, is looking for a move after spending two seasons at the heart of the Palermo defence, while 19-year-old striker Balotelli has courted controversy at Inter Milan, wearing an AC Milan shirt on television.

Chile winger Alexis Sanchez, who plays his club football for Udinese, has his heart set on a move to Manchester United, according to one of his team-mates at the World Cup finals.

Stoke striker Tuncay has emerged as a surprise £4m target for German giants Schalke. The 28-year-old, who has spent one season at the Potters, is also a target of Sunderland and Blackburn.

England and West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green is being lined up to replace Mark Schwarzer at Fulham, with the Australian keeper bound for Arsenal.

Panathinaikos and Paris St Germain are locked in a battle to sign William Gallas after the Arsenal defender, who is out of contract with the Gunners, rejected a move to Juventus.

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini wants striker Craig Bellamy to remain at Eastland despite the pair’s falling-outs last season.

Injury-plagued Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate will head back to Spurs this week for an assessment on his long-standing groin problem, which restricted him to just three appearances last season.

Port Vale boss Micky Adams could be offered a return to Leicester City if current Foxes manager Nigel Pearson takes over the vacant job at Hull. Adams guided Leicester to the Premier League in 2003.

Rugby union star Danny Cipriani is ready to abandon the sport and try to forge a career in football. The fly-half, who had trials with Queens Park Rangers and Reading as a teenager, has been approached by Fulham with a view to having a trial next month.
